Sculptural Lights
Sculptural Lights are handmade light fixtures that function as both lighting and standalone works of art.
Each piece is first and foremost a sculpture — the light is an integral, yet secondary, component of its presence.
The glass elements are crafted in collaboration with skilled glassblowers in Nuutajärvi Glass Village, a historic center of Finnish glassmaking. The metalwork is produced by Milla Vaahtera and her team in Porvoo, Finland.Since launching the series in 2020, Vaahtera has created over 130 unique pieces — and counting. The forms range from fluid and organic to precisely geometric, showcasing the artist’s ongoing exploration of contrast, materiality, and movement.
Glassblowers: Paula Pääkkönen, Otto Koivuranta, Samuli Parkkinen, Penna Tornberg, Jasmiina Lehtomaa, Sani Lappalainen, Jani Kaski, Janika Sjöman and many other talents

Sculptural Lights
Made to Order
UNIQUE AND HANDCRAFTED
Each Sculptural Light by Milla Vaahtera is entirely one-of-a-kind. While custom commissions may begin with reference to an earlier work — such as those shared on Instagram — no replicas are made. Every light is an individual composition.
When commissioning a made-to-order piece, you can collaborate with the artist to choose the color palette, scale, and glassblowing techniques to suit your space and vision. She can provide 3D model files when collaborating with designers and architects.
LEAD TIME
Approximately 1–4 months from the date of order.
GLASS COLORS
Glass colors are inherently unpredictable — even more so when light is introduced into the piece. Opaque glasses create beautifully soft, reflective surfaces, while transparent colors can be stunning but may reveal the light source and show dust more visibly.
MATERIAL AND FINISH
Brass is the primary metal used in Milla’s work. Pricing typically includes a brass finish. Brass can be oxidized, developing a rich, matte black patina with a distinctly metallic feel — very different from a painted surface. Silver-plated brass is available upon request, though size limitations apply for silver plating.
WIRING AND INSTALLING
Most Sculptural Lights use E14 light sources, with a universal block at the canopy end. The lights are installed and wired by a local electrician and are compatible all over the world.
