Public Art Work for SKiB

1,2,3,5,8,13...

CULTURAL CENTER FIINI
SKiB CAMPUS - ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
PORI, FINLAND

TOGETHER WITH
JKMM ARCHITECTS
SVENSKA KULTURFONDEN I BJÖRNEBORG (SKiB)

The artwork, composed of kinetic sculptures and lights, is designed as part of the open ceiling space in the café of the Cultural Centre Fiini. The piece has been developed in parallel with the building's architectural planning, so that the structure of the building has taken the artwork into account from the very beginning. The architecture is by JKMM Architects, and Cultural Centre Fiini is part of the school building owned by the Svenska Kulturfonden i Björneborg foundation (SKiB).

1,2,3,5,8,13... — the concept and title of the piece are based on the Fibonacci sequence. Both the proportions of the work and the number of its elements use the golden ratio and Fibonacci numbers. In the artwork, spontaneous artistic expression in glass meets mathematics. The piece will be composed of hand-cut brass sheets, pipes, and mouth-blown glass. The components of the artwork will move gently with the air currents: through movement, the work subtly transforms all the time, yet it remains restrained, natural, and calming. In the artist's own words, the piece is like "a poem in space."
